What we learn together

Eight small values, one drawing at a time. Each has a short story from our drives and an activity to try at home. Save any card and share it.

An open book with stars rising
  1. 1

    Say thank you

    Gratitude makes small things big.

    The story

We end every drive in a circle where each child thanks one person, by name, for one small thing.

    Try this

Write a thank-you card to someone who never gets one: the bus driver, the guard, the cook.

  2. 2

    Share your roti

Half a roti, twice the joy.

    The story

Sudama had only a handful of poha. Krishna treasured it more than a palace. Sharing is about the heart, not the size.

    Try this

At lunch, offer one bite of your favourite thing to the person next to you.

  3. 3

    Plant a tree

Give shade you may never sit in.

    The story

Each child plants a sapling and names it. The trees are taller than some of the children now.

    Try this

Plant a seed in a cup. Water it every day for two weeks and draw how it grows.

  4. 4

    Help a friend

    One umbrella fits two.

    The story

When the monsoon came early, the children walked each other home under the few umbrellas they had.

    Try this

Find one person today who is carrying too much, and carry half.

  5. 5

    Keep learning

Every page is a new sky.

    The story

Our library started with twelve books. The children decided every book must be read by three people before it goes back on the shelf.

    Try this

Learn one new word today and use it three times before bed.

  6. 6

    Respect elders

    Their stories are our roots.

    The story

Once a month, grandparents from a nearby home visit and tell the stories they grew up with.

    Try this

Ask an elder about the best day of their childhood. Listen to the whole story.

  7. 7

    Be honest

    Truth shines on its own.

    The story

We keep an 'honesty box' of found things. Nothing in it has ever gone missing.

    Try this

If you make a mistake today, say it out loud before anyone finds it.

  8. 8

    Smile first

    Someone is waiting for it.

    The story

The children's rule for new volunteers: you have to smile first. They always do.

    Try this

Smile at five people today before they smile at you. Count how many smile back.

Teach a lesson yourself.

Our Sunday sessions always need people who can tell a good story.
